What to know before renting
- Written contract: Set out the rent, the term, the deposit and who pays the maintenance fee (aidat) in a written lease.
- Deposit: Under the Turkish Code of Obligations, the security deposit for residential leases may not exceed three months' rent.
- Rent increases: When the lease is renewed, the increase may not exceed the twelve-month average of the consumer price index (TÜFE) for the previous rental year.
- Handover report: Record the condition of the flat at handover in a written report with photographs.
