Living and property in Muratpaşa

Muratpaşa is the district that covers Antalya's historic and commercial centre. Kaleiçi, the old harbour and the city's main avenues are all here, and to the east the district extends as far as the Lara coast. Its proximity to hospitals, schools, shopping areas and public transport makes it an area buyers often look at, whether to live in or to let.

Popular neighbourhoods

On the Lara side, apartments in gated complexes and developments close to the sea are concentrated in Şirinyalı, Fener, Güzeloba and Çağlayan. Neighbourhoods near the centre, such as Kızıltoprak, Meltem and Yeşilbahçe, are known for their established apartment blocks. Kaleiçi, with its historic houses, boutique hotels and shops, has a character all its own.

What to check before you buy

• Kaleiçi is a protected heritage site (sit alanı); repairs, renovations and changes of use there require the approval of the heritage conservation board. Before buying, ask about the building's listing status and its approved survey or restoration project.
• In older apartment buildings, look into earthquake resistance, the date of the building permit and whether the building has been officially designated as risky (riskli yapı).
• In gated complexes, find out the maintenance fee (aidat), the management plan and shared-area costs in advance.
• Daily or weekly letting requires a permit from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; in apartment buildings the unanimous consent of the other flat owners is required.
